You’ve been left behind
February 24, 2011 2:18 pm
Apparently, to prank a Christian all you need to do is get a bunch of people together, get them undressed really fast, and voila, you have yourself a rapture prank. You’ve got to love cheap Christian television.
I can’t tell if this is all scripted or if that idiot girl really believed that she was “left behind” by her magical messiah. Either way, exploiting the gullible seems like the kind of thing Christians would get a kick out of.

The evolution of play

Contributor to the podcast and all around sexy girl Carisa Hendrix has just finished recording a podcast I think some of you might enjoy: It’s about the evolution of play, and how it makes us more peaceful, more productive, and even more appealing to the opposite sex!

Sectarian peace in all its glory
8:36 pmNigeria is currently the battleground between Christianity and Islam. Since last year, over 2000 people have died fighting. Despite communities trying to sign various peace treatise with one another, every once in a while they just start attacking one another again. It’s a perfect example of the kind of division and strife that mutually incompatible beliefs cause.
The latest incident involves 18 Christians who were killed, and 12 were injured after being attacks by a roving gang armed with guns, cutlasses, and arrows (that’s pretty damn old school).
I can only imagine the situation getting worse, especially considering revenge killings are just a fact of life. All hail the religions of peace, and their uncanny ability to civilize mankind!

Hebrew concept of the earth

Wow, it’s so close to the real thing, isn’t it? If this is the best God can do in terms of informing his “children” on the technical specifications of the Universe, it certainly explains why he did such a piss-poor job teaching other things, like morality and civics. Fail.

Jon Stewart on religion
3:19 pmBefore Jon was a superstar talk show host, he was working the comedy circuit like everyone else. Here’s one of his older bits on religion. Man does he look young in this. Is this pre-”Death to Smoochie”?

This week, Carisa joins me as we talk about sexism in the atheist scene, and we make fun of the Vatican’s stupid efforts to try and reconcile science and religion! Don’t miss out!

Trading hatred for love
February 22, 2011 4:10 pm
Homophobic crime is on the rise in England, and as you might have already guessed, the culprits are hiding behind a vail of religion to justify their bigotry.
The backlash is due to the growing recognition of gay rights, both to marry and adopt, and this has prompted groups motivated by improvable dogma to retaliate. One unidentified group is putting up stickers that say “gay free zone” along with a quote from the Koran.
In response to this, gay rights activists have gone on a campaign of “defacing” the stickers with the word “love” in an effort to combat this vile hatred.
Actor Wendy Richardson explained the rationale behind the group’s response.
“Rather than get angry with the people who did it, we decided to counter it with some love. We’re a cross section of people, of all races and sexualities – gay, straight and bisexual – saying its just not appropriate.
“But we thought- you know what? We’re not going to hate you back. It sounds a bit wet, but takes a lot of courage.”
It’s nicer than the tactic I would have employed, but then again I’m a crusty bastard with little tolerance for stupidity and blind bigotry. Good for them for taking the high road!

My kind of petition
2:52 pmYou have to love the French. I like the way they think. Apart from the bloody mess that was their Revolution, and their tendency to allow horrible dictators a crack at running their country, every once in a while they do something remarkable (like inventing the metric system).
Recently, a group of Atheists in France have created a petition to ensure that both Bibles and Korans have to be sold with a warning label that would read:
This book contains sexist, homophobic, sectarian and crime-inducing passages. It is necessary to set it back in its historical context knowing it was written before the Middle-Ages”.
I love it! If you have some time, go to the site and sign their petition. I realize we’re unlikely to win this one but hey, it’s worth a shot, right?
