As many of you know by now, life has been a bit chaotic as of late. After the break-up with my fiancee, I still had a book in the works despite having spent my last penny moving back to Montreal. This forced me to live on the generosity and kindness of my friends and family, and despite getting a huge portion of it done, the loss of the art-book set things further back, forcing me to delay the launch.
To make matters worse, my microphone and computer situation had deteriorated to the point where recording podcasts was simply impractical, and with the book looming, and my growing disconnect with the atheism scene in general, I called the radio show off.
Of course, I’ve been doing podcasting for so long that I can’t seem to go without it, which is why I’m working on a brand new one called Holy Shit I’m an Ape. The show is not about atheism, but is a general topic show covering everything from my thoughts on writing to politics in the US. Unlike the format of TGA, which tended to be more rigid and academic at times, I’ve decided this one is more of a stream of consciousness, interspersed with humor, a bit of music, and some interviews.
Now, because I’ve been sleeping in various living rooms and guest lodgings for a while, I didn’t have the stable environment to pump out a regular show. Instead, I’ve been working on a backlog of them slowly so when I launch the new podcast, you’ll have something to bite your teeth into a little. That’s changed now that I finally have a place of my own (well a room, but that’s a start!).
In the meantime, I’m regularly posting on jacobfortin.com now, usually showing all the behind the scene stuff you’ve never seen, and I’ve also set up private forums for members only. I’m changing the membership dues to ‘pay whatever the fuck you want’ and I’m actively recruiting for the 300 (since this is more ‘fans of my work’ stuff than ‘atheists who want my message out there’). Naturally, because of this new policy, I’m counting on the people who join up at reduced member rates to participate heavily in the forums, sharing their Internet discoveries, stories, and thoughts about future content I’m developing (including a cooking show that I’m working on with a TV producer).
If you’d like to be a member, please get in touch. Slots are filling up quickly, and it caps at 300.
