Thinking of ditching the forums

Remember when I finally succumbed to fan pressure and spent days setting up a forum for you guys? My original opposition to the idea was that the site still lacked the necessary interaction and involvement from fans to make the venture worthwhile. There’s nothing more I hate in this world than an empty and dead forum, and right now, that’s what we’ve got.

With the plugins making the site more sluggish than it needs to be, it behooves me to offer readers the opportunity to make a case for why it should remain at all. I would rather change the format and embed comments with Facebook instead (making conversations a bit easier to manage), but I would be remiss if I didn’t at least try and communicate with all of you my profound displeasure in having such an embarrassingly empty forum.

Fair points. I’m curious as to how the facebook embedding will go as It would be easier if people get updates to notify them when someone has posted in a topic.

Still it will be sad to see the formal organised categories that forums offer

I was one of the hopeful that getting forums would explode and be a great place to chat with other fans, but it really hasn’t been much of the case. While I would like to keep them, getting a forum active (when most people just chat over Facebook in your posts) is pretty tough.

What about starting a subreddit for TGA and replacing the “FORUMS” button with a link to that subreddit? I also like the comment system you have now and would rather see it expanded upon than moved to Facebook. I think that maybe having just a notification(emails) system that you can subscribe to for individual blog posts you choose would be a big(and simple) step up.

Ya, I think it would be for the best.

Commenting on the FB posts or blog posts is good for me. Subreddit also sounds good.
