Speaking as one of the “older” nonbelievers, I actually became an atheist only about 5 years ago, after a long period of agnosticism. Last I checked, I don’t have a huge amount of $$, and have to keep working instead of retiring. I have zero pull with any politician, even locally.
The thought of knowing that religion might disappear from North America by the end of this century makes me happy. I seriously doubt it’ll be gone from the whole world, though. Probably never will be, but it’s nice to hope.
