Good interview – you need to do more of them. I find this one flowed really well as a conversation.

As a side note: can you read ‘They Mayor of Castro Street (or watch the Documentary: ‘The Times of Harvey Milk’ if you can stomach Harvey Fierstein’s voice for an hour and a half) please? You know I love you and you do great work, but every time you call yourself the Harvey Milk of Atheism I want to pull my hair out. It’s kinda like labeling yourself the Martin Luther King of atheism. I don’t think it’s an honorific you can bestow yourself. Just my two cents.

If I was a womanizer, then maybe I would call myself the Martin Luther King of atheism. Does someone have to get shot in order to be bestowed a similar kind of honor?

if you think all he did was ‘get shot for gay rights’ then you haven’t done your research.

that’s not what i meant. I’m talking about the way we mythologize people, especially if they are martyred. They are just people who fought for what they believed in. I do the same. If it insults you when i make a comparison, then that’s fine. But I don’t regard anyone as anything more than human.

It doesn’t insult me, I don’t claim any kind of gay privilege for that, and I think that given time you could be the Harvey Milk of atheism. If the comparison you draw is only that you fought for what you believe in, then yeah, I can give you that(but that also means that The Thinking Atheist, PZ Meyers, Richard Dawkins,etc.. are also equally the Harvey Milks of atheism). If you look at how you both approached your causes, then I think maybe you’ll see where I’m coming from.

At the end of the day, I don’t want to turn this into a big thing, you’re totally within your rights to think of yourself however you want (and hell, maybe I’m just being a stickler for detail) It just struck me as a little strange. Have you thought of actually doing a show on Atheist activism (like full on , off the internet, feet on the ground activism) it’d actually be a pretty interesting conversation, i think.

This was good! A good interview on topic.

After the last few podcasts I had pretty much given up on you. Nice to have a good podcast without the minutes of moaning.

Atheist Appreciation Month is such an excellent idea…. looking forward the the rest.

I’m not a fan of the interview episodes, I much prefer you and either Ryan, Carisa or Jeff talking about stuff. That said, this one was actually pretty good.
