Bill O’Reily is hilarious

While I’m starting to agree that religion was less of a motivating factor in the attack on Oslo, Norway than pure racist xenophobia and fascism, it’s hilarious how Billy-Boy refuses to believe any mass murderer could be a Christian. You can’t really blame him for his ignorance; this is the same man who is convinced tides prove the existence of God. Still you hear this “No True Scotsman” fallacy all the time in regards to who is, and isn’t a “real” Christian. Here’s a working definition: any person who believes a historically dubious Palestinian Jew who lived 2000 years ago was in fact the creator of the Universe.

It’s tragic to think people like Bill actually believe devoted religious people are incapable of murder, since faith itself often motivates people to commit the most atrocious acts. The Crusaders who slaughtered man, woman and child indiscriminately did so precisely BECAUSE of their religious convictions. While I agree that Anders probably does not fit in that category, there’s nothing about his behavior that would suggest that he was a “bad Christian”.

You sir are a completely out of touch fear monger. Your views are laughed at here in Canada and I myself would like to see the Fox network taken off the air, you only spread miss-information and religious rhetoric. Wake up, it’s 2011 and we don’t need the crutch of religion any longer.

    One pissed off Canadian.

    In Utah

You could easily make the same bullshit argument for Islam that “no TRUE Muslim would commit murder”. It’s like if someone is a church going man, believes in the bible, takes the sacrament, sings the hymns, wears a cross, and so on but them does something horrible they just say, “oh well he was never REALLY a TRUE christian anyways”. I guess the god of the old testament was never really a TRUE christian.

It’s interesting to me that O’Reily is able to call Breivik a crazy person motivated by an irrational hatred for muslims while simultaneously making fear-mongering generalizations about muslims with the intent of inciting that same sort of bigotry.

He doesn’t even bat an eye or stumble over his words.

Though, I do agree that some folks did seem a bit quick to slap the hardcore christian lable on this particular asshole — though he did call himself a modern Templar — the idea that christians are not just as capable as anyone else of senseless acts of violence is ridiculous and completely ignorant of history. Of course, O’Reily is of the opinion that Hitler was an atheist, and the third reich was a secular movement. Guess the “Gott Mit Uns” on the belt buckles were simply for irony’s sake. Really, the nazis were the first hipsters.

Ezra Levant of Sun Television — Canada’s new Fox News North — had a column in the Sun newspapers today where he not only attempted to make the same point O’Reily fumbles at, but went so far as to call Breivik a satanist. Because when you’re trying to make the point that something your competitors have said for which there is very little evidence is untrue, the best way to do so with with an even more fallacious claim.

    The idiocy! It burns!!!

I think it’s hilarious how he is saying that secularists are trying to expose the danger of religion… Well spotted, hun. We are. Exhibit A…
It’s also insane that he asserts that terrorism is defined as a group that causes significant harm and death to the population. Except for in this case, of course.
Uhgg this is the news channel my family watches every day. Sad that this kind of babbling monkey in denial is broadcast across America, and further, vehemently agreed with.
We’ve got a lot of work to do, folks.
Sigh. I really just want to hit him.

this guy doesn’t even read the news anymore, he just sits there looks straight at the camera and tells people what to think

So, this terrorist can’t be a Christian because what he did is something that Christ has not specifically condoned (forgive me, it must have been someone else who said: “But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.” (Luke 19:27) or “Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.” (Matthew 10:34), etc. Yet, O’Reilly condemns homosexuality. Why? Christ doesn’t speak of this ‘act’ of sexual behavior. But, wait… the “old testament” does speak of homosexual behavior. Jesus refers to the old testament often and has even stated that “For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” So, O’Reilly is fine using “old testament, new testament” ideology, but our Christian terrorist isn’t able to? O’Reilly is a simple-ton who thinks the “tides roll in, the tides roll out” without the need of physical laws. After all, God controls EVERYTHING, right?
