This is a travesty of justice!

Anytime you come out as an atheist, you run the risk of your life becoming more difficult. That’s what EllenBeth Wachs of Florida found out. She was arrested earlier this month by her fundamentalist local Sheriff who didn’t like her activism. What was her crime, you wonder?

EllenBeth Wachs was arrested Sunday [May 1] accused of making noises in her home that sounded as though she was having sex.

The arrest warrant says she made noise in her home on March 13 that “sounded like a woman experiencing sexual gratification in an extremely loud fashion.”

Yes, you read correctly. SHE WAS IN HER OWN HOME GETTING LAID. Somehow, the Sheriff’s office has nothing better to do than harass its own citizens. EllenBeth has put up a donation bar, and as you can expect, it’s barely past the 300 mark. Congratulations my fellow atheists, we’ve proved yet again how cheap we are. Makes me sad we can’t rally together and fight this injustice. They want to arrest an atheist woman for having orgasms in her own home. Is there no justice left in this world?

Oh shit. This is completely tasteless but I can’t resist it:

You’d think the fundies would be okay with knowing the Second Coming was going on.

Right. Awful joke reflex out of the way. This is bloody terrible. Which law(s) do they claim she’s broken, exactly?

Oh, wait, stupid question, it’s through the link on the link. Lewd and lascivious conduct within the vicinity of a child, because she (allegedly) got some in her own home while a neighbour played basketball with his kid next door in THEIR own home.

It’s times like this I’m glad they do things like that to people, in a way, if only because the churches used to *really* be in charge here in England. Some of the older buildings still have the spikes where they would display the heads of people like us.

To be fair, putting aside those of us who’ve been unemployed for over a year, people just donated to that FSM spray painted Church and to that kid who got thrown out of his house for protesting prayer at his graduation and then there was the fund raising for Skeptic Camp. I mean, we atheist seem to constantly have a new thing were being asked to give money to. After this lady wanna bet another atheist blog will either have a fund raiser for themselves or some other worthy cause?

Most atheist aren’t even out or particularly active in ‘the movement’ so in many ways some of the same people are being hit up for cash over and over. I hope this lady’s numbers go up but if they don’t I wouldn’t say the answer is that atheists are cheap.

What does she need money for? 1. Almost guaranteed the case will be dropped before trial. 2. There are tons of lawyers who would take the case just for a cut of the malicious prosecution suit they would undoubtedly file after winning.

And as for the specifics of the case- I will pitch in to help someone in the fight for good. I will not enable people who deliberately provoke petty squables and fan flames.

Compared to the monies religious people give, we could never really compare. Do you donate 10% of your income to anything? I mean, ignore for a second what religions do with the money. Secular organizations are underfunded. It’s time we admit how fucking cheap we all are.

Is spreading godlessness as important to us as religious people spreading their message? It might also explain why we’ve got a lot of work to do to get atheists to spend more on secular causes.
