The world sucks because of you

Wow, I never knew non belief was responsible for all the world’s problems! That’s according to the mayor of Suwannee, a county in Florida that still enforces prohibition (progressive, no?). He thinks the biggest issue facing the world is the lack of belief in God:

There are those that don’t acknowledge the existence of God. Their souls are in mortal danger of being lost for eternity. These atheists, agnostics or non believers point to the injustices and tribulations that befall man. These are things of man’s doing, not God. The main point is that if people around the world truly had God in their lives, there would not be any of the things that atheists point to in order to discredit a belief in the Almighty. God is caring and loving. He is not a mean God. If people were to turn toward God and not away from Him, there would be a heaven on earth. God bless us all.

Yep, if everyone were to believe in the SAME god, a process that appears to require regular sectarian massacres, and internal inquisitions to discourage the religion from reforming, then the whole world would be a paradise! Except of course for women who are raped and need an abortion, or for people who just can’t seem to believe all of the suffering in the world is really the result of man’s actions and not the cruelty of nature. Except for the terrible ignorance, bigotry and xenophobia that is characteristic of religion, Mayor Fuckface assures us God will make a personal appearance once we’ve stopped praying to the myriad of entities that aren’t quite the right one.

“There are those that don’t acknowledge the existence of God.”

To echo Jacob, by god” he means “HIS god”, exclusively.

“The main point is that if people around the world truly had God in their lives, there would not be any of the things that atheists point to in order to discredit a belief in the Almighty.”

So the existence of atheists somehow magically made all the evidence (because their is none) for the existence of the christian “god” disappear from the world? The existence of atheists made every single bit of evidence pointing to a global flood and all the other historical non-events recorded in the bible?

If his “god” is so impotent that the mere existence of non believers wipes out all evidence of it’s existence then he/she/it isn’t worthy of the title of “god” at all.

“God is caring and loving. He is not a mean God.”

How suprising, another “fundamentalist” that hasn’t so much as cracked open a bible, much less actually read it. Is sending two bears to massacre 42 children for an insignificant slight the act of a “good” god? Is ordering the Israelites to massacre countless men, women, and children, but keep the young virgin girls for themselves the act of a “good” god? Is forcing a young girl to marry her rapist because the aforementioned rapist paid her father some money the act of a “good” god? Is condemning BILLIONS to eternal torture simply because they lived in a place and time where they could never have possibly heard of christianity the act of a “good” god? Moreover is condemning a being he/she/it supposedly loves to infinite punisment in the form of eternal torture of finite crimes the act of a “good” god?

Haec credam a deo pio, a deo justo, a deo scito?

“If people were to turn toward God and not away from Him, there would be a heaven on earth”

    Not according to his bible.

    J.N. Hudson,

Ahhh, but you see none of *those* things were ordained by God don’t you know. Nope, those were all allegorical and metaphorical tales and never actually happened.

Today’s Christian just ignores all the bad stuff and only talks about the peace and love of God. He was never bad, NEVER, and if he was he’s so far above us intellectually we can’t possibly understand that what we perceive as bad is actually really good because he works in mysterious ways and stuff.

Nope, don’t blame the people who do crazy shit in the names of their fairy tales for the world’s problems, blame the people who point out that they believe in nonsense fairy tales. Its us damned atheists who make it hard to pretend that its the Devil who’s making people do all that bad shit rather than actually taking responsibility for ones actions and actually cleaning up their act.

    Pete…

You can’t handle the truth. You have the luxury of not knowing what the mayor knows. That Jesus’ death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And God’s existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don’t want the truth because deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want God in your life, you need God in your life. We use words like resurrection, soul, belief. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain Christianity to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that God provides, and then questions the manner in which he provides it. I would rather you just let your preacher touch your weiner, and went on your way.

Golden arms, what a pile of crap. Have you been smoking the incense again?

You are the pitiful deluded one. Even by your own standards. What could possibly compel you to go to someone else house and tell him what you think he really needs or wants? When is the last time Jacob came into your home to tell you how to live your life? Or what you really want? Troll!

Oh cmon Crazy Legs Conti. The “touch your weiner” part didn’t clue you in that I was joking around? That’s some Jack Nicholson stuff right there, watched the movie yesterday. It’s still pretty good and Demi Moore is hot in a uniform.

“If people were to turn toward God and not away from Him, there would be a heaven on earth.”
wrong! the correct answer is accepting reality. If we collectively gave a crap enough about the real world (instead of fantasizing about the unproven idea of an afterlife) than earth would look more like this “heaven” christians keep mentioning. <_<
