Jonathan Haidt on the “Moral Matrix”

Makes you think, doesn’t it? I think one of the advantages of atheism is we share so many different values. There really is a huge diversity of political beliefs, and it’s my hope we can continue to maintain an open mind. Of course, I disagree with him strongly on the Dalai Lama’s moral humility, but that’s a discussion for another time.

A good presentation that articulates much of what I think about the conservative/liberal divide. I like to think I am fairly even-handed between the two, though I would definitely say I’m more left than right. I realize the need for order and punishments, but I also see a lot of superfluous “order” (like, say, religion) and want those ties cut if they are not “value adds”. Many punishments are also hold-overs from less moral times, and so I would like to cut those out as well.

Hmmm almost tempting to believe this is more credible than having your aura read. Really helps you understand how religions get started: here’s somethings about you and how you sit in the same box as me blah blah blah and they are different to us blah blah blah therefore we’re better! Religologic wins!

Beware of bullshit that you agree with.
