This is both gross and engrossing

Man, I never realized just how alien a giraffe neck looks when you slice it up. It’s positively Giger-esque. It’s also another fine example of evolution in all its glory!

Since AJ BUWALDA is pulling out the latin:

I call Argumentum ad Ignorantum. Since you perceive that this isn’t good design it must be because you don’t understand it. The recurrent laryngeal nerve may be recurrent for a reason. Since a giraffe has only been dissected twice since 1838, they seem to be jumping to conclusions. For years we cut body parts out, thinking they had no function, only to find out we were wrong.

Dawkins says “I don’t understand why this nerve is recurrent, therefore it must not have a reason to be recurrent…BAM …Evolution!”

Of course I know that Christians do the same thing, we want everything to fit in our “God explanation”. The reason for this is because we have had thing happen in our life that prove to us that God is real, then we work from there. I know this is hard for you guys to understand, but try to have an open mind about it.

The other guys says there must be a reason for this happening. Well, maybe there is a reason and they haven’t figured it out yet. With only two dissections since 1838 maybe we can figure this out with more research.

Here’s a diagram to explain the description below:

If you listen closely you’ll notice that she says the nerve branches out. That’s because laryngeal is an extension of the vagus nerve and it does loop around the aorta. But the vagus itself is not the throat nerve and continues past the heart, through the esophagus, into the abdomen, supplying nerves to a bunch of organs all the way down to the stomach, intestines and liver.

It’s possible that the nerve needs to be connected to the stomach to tell the esophagus needed information such as coordinating contractions of its muscular lining.

    Brandon. You are pathetic.

    Amazing, thanks for the vid.

Brandon, aren’t you jumping to conclusions as well? Even if the nerve does branch out what would be the point in going all the way back up? Not to mention that we, as humans, also rely on our stomach to communicate w/ our brain or other parts of our body. It’s rather sad how you’re trying to go out of your way to make something fit, however possible, into your already held beliefs rather than question their accuracy. But I suppose most of us do the same.

I don’t understand what you mean.

That’s what I’m claiming that Dawkins is doing here.

Okay Bradndon, let’s talk about something else that is vestigal. Explain to me the purpose of the bible verses that talk about men being hung like donkeys and have emissions like stallions. If a Giraffe’s neck is all useful, than surely the book of the lord is all purposeful as well. Don’t forget, in Ecclesiastes it says that ALL scripture is inspired by god and beneficial for for setting all things right. So enlighten me. I won’t even make you explain away vermiform appendix, which actually can make us die. Or maybe that is the purpose! Though, I have to say Brandon, you are a sport.

And as far as “people having things happen that prove god is real”, you ever talk to a woman whose babies heart is born outside it’s chest? Or howabout innocent girls having their clits sewed up and being raped AFTER THAT WHEN THEY ARE 9 by their 40 year old husbands in the middle east? Surely god is in all their lives. Then again, they did make the major fuck up of being born in the wrong religion.

I’m pretty sure there is an episode from the same series where they autopsied a beached whale. They dug out the vestigial leg bones beneath a couple feet of skin, blubber and muscle. Tell me a reason it needs that. (although I know you probably will, but it will be fun to see how far you have to reach to grasp those straws.)

Hey Brandon, put this into googlescholar (www.googlescholar.com if you didn’t already know) and have a read of the article, it explains your questions quite well

“Okay Bradndon, let’s talk about something else that is vestigal. Explain to me the purpose of the bible verses that talk about men being hung like donkeys and have emissions like stallions.” MIGHTYFOODA
Ezekiel 23 is allegorical. He is talking about two sisters Oholah, who represents Samaria, and Oholibah who represents Jerusalem.

God frequently used the illustration of how Israel prostituted themselves to other countries. Meaning, instead of coming to God for help they went to other countries for help in exchange for their loyalty. So Ezekiel 22:20 “and lusted after her paramours there, whose members were like those of donkeys, and whose issue was like that of horses.” meaning Israel lusted after the things of Egypt and sold themselves to them as prostitutes.

“If a Giraffe’s neck is all useful, than surely the book of the lord is all purposeful as well. Don’t forget, in Ecclesiastes it says that ALL scripture is inspired by god and beneficial for for setting all things right. So enlighten me. Ok. Maybe I am just not clearheaded today, or maybe I am not that intelligent (I’m sure most of you think the later), but I am not following what your question is exactly. Did you just want me to explain the verse concerning the “donkey bits and emissions?”

    Did I answer your question?

I had things happen in my life that you may think are coincidences but I see as God intervening and “working” in my life. That’s is what I was talking about there.

But I believe you are saying that because bad things happen that means God isn’t real?

Brandon,I am sure you are very intellgient. You would have to be to do all the mental gymnastics you do to prove your faith to yourself on this forum.
The reason that I brought up the Vermiform Appendix is because it is vestigal and clearly serves no purpose. You are saying that nothing can be vestigal and everything serves a purpose for god. So tell me, what purpose does it serve. The bit about the donkey dick and bronco jizz is a bit over the top and that amount of detail isn’t needed by an eloquent all powerfull god. As for the injustices, I will let this quote by one far more intelligent than I some it all up eloquently.
Is God all powerful but unable to stop evil? Then God is not omnipotent. Is God allpowerful but not willing to stop evil? Then God is malevolent. Is God allpowerful and allgood? Then whence enter evil?Is God weak and unable to stop evil? Then why call him God?
