Black Atheism

I know from many testimonies that coming out as an atheist is much more difficult for African Americans than any other minorities (with the exception of Hispanics perhaps), and a lot of it has to do with this perception that religion is the glue that holds their communities together. I’ve always wondered why anyone thought it was acceptable to be indoctrinated to believe in the religion slave masters forced down their throats. This is the same religion that justified their slavery! How fucking nuts is that?

Bayard Rustin – Principal organizer of the March on Washington in 1963. He was openly gay, anti-communistic, a socialist, a civil rights activist and also a freethinker.

    Bayard Rocked.

You beat me to it, David. Though, to be fair, I’m not sure Bayard Rustin fits under the FAMOUS banner. He’s not that well known outside certain circles. How old is the guy in this video? I bet he’s never heard of Rustin or if he did, doesn’t know very much about him.

I love it. He thinks exactly the same as I do and he reads Dawkins. Hope he knows you guys posted this. It would probably excite him. I am white, but understand where he is coming from because I am in south Alabama.
