It doesn’t get sweeter than this

Man, credit to QualiaSoup for really dishing out the pain. I can’t imagine a more brutal and decisive strike against creationism and their junk science. Good way to wake up, am I right?

I don’t think that this strikes any new blow against them. It’s not that they exist because the lack of good arguments against them. It’s that they don’t care to look. It’ll be ignored.

I know this isn’t the main point of the video but I had to comment on one of the first points he made at the beginning at the video.

He said “whether or not something seems absurd is not a valid guide for science”
So this goes against most of what you believe, Jake. It seems absurd to you that there may be a God. But it could be. Take Darwin’s advice. We have personal experiences that we can’t deny and throw off as coincidences but believe this is God working in our life.

So your argument that I should believe is because it’s completely absurd? Sounds like Tertulian and his “Credo quia absurdum is” (I believe because it’s absurd”. That’s some serious weak-sauce pal.

@Michael. You’re right, there is nothing new here, it’s just so concise and well explained that it’s hard to argue against.

There should be more of this kind of thing, I can’t help feeling that we are so eager to back up our position with science that we end up wrapping it in language that verges on the impenetrable.

Religion meanwhile operates in words of one syllable, in bold print, accompanied with pretty pictures.

I don’t want to dumb down or anything but I do think we need to pace ourselves slightly to get through to a larger audience.

    ^No Jake, that’s not what I meant.

I just think you should have a little more tolerance for those of us with religious beliefs. I’m not asking you to believe I’m ask you to not be such a bigot.

You are right, this is the language you wrap your data in on TheGoodAtheist.com:
    “all religious people are idiots”

“Look at this article! It’s another religious person doing something stupid so they all must believe and act this way!”

“Here’s scientific proof that God can’t be proved! What a bunch of morons for believing this! they are all racists and want to kill gay people!”

“We’ve picked the most outrageous person on the fringe of religious society who has been outcast by all denominations and we’re going to summarize that religious people are evil based on this. If all religious people would stop believing we would have world peace”

Intolerance for dumb ideas is not bigotry, MBP. What you believe in is literally ridiculous. There’s really no nice way to say it, honestly. I have no more reason to respect beliefs that have no basis in reality than I need to respect a loon who declares himself to be Napoleon.

“Intolerance for dumb ideas is not bigotry, MBP”-Jacob

Yes, but intolerance, hatred, name calling for PEOPLE who have certain beliefs is.

I dare you to post something nice about a Christian. Post something about Christians feeding the homeless, providing and caring for orphans of AIDS victims in Africa, building houses in New Orleans, being the primary vehicles for aid in Haiti after the earthquake, taking care of drug addicts in Hong Kong (read Chasing the Dragon by Jackie Pullinger), providing free counseling at churches to anyone who asks, etc.

Bigot: a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance

I’ll have some nice things to say when the world isn’t made shittier because of your beliefs (some good deeds do not outweigh the incredible harm your ludicrous beliefs cause to society and human progress). Until then, the ideas that constitute your schema are my enemy, dude.

In the meantime, I can try to find you a tampon for your bleeding vagina if that helps, MBP.

considering gays dont have equal rights because of the bigotry of religion…..glass houses an junk.

You dont need religion to do any of the good deeds you listed MBP.
Doing good deeds doesnt give anymore value to religion. Its still an amazingly stupid belief. No matter how much money you throw around, your believing in something that doesnt have a shred of evidence.

What rights do heterosexual people have that gay people do not have? I’m not saying they have equal rights. I’m just curious what rights you are referring to.

“You dont need religion to do any of the good deeds you listed MBP” -Thiga
Did I say that? No wonder you guys are so frustrated and angry, you misunderstanding everything I say.

THey are not allowed to marry or adopt children in almost all of the US. All Islamic countries deal with them the same way.

No you fucking idiot you didnt come out and use those exact words, but you insinuate good deeds done by Christians as prove religion can be good. If you didnt mean to relate the two, there would have been no point in mention Christian good deeds.

    Men's Battle Plan

A gay person can marry whoever they want. It may not be recognized by a state but why does it matter? What benefits does a gay person receive once they are married that they didn’t have when they weren’t?

I’m ashamed to admit that I really haven’t investigated this so I want to hear the answers. Maybe a google search would help me here.

As a Christian, I honestly don’t care if gay people get married and it is recognized by the government as a marriage union just like heterosexual marriage.

    @MBP

I didn’t see anyone else state the reason’s why people want the government to recognize gay marriage and I wasn’t sure if you ended up searching why people want equal treatment. I mean, besides the desire to have equal treatment. I wanted to give you a few of the 1,138 benefits the United States government provides to legally married couples:

    - Access to Military Stores
    - Assumption of Spouse’s Pension
    - Bereavement Leave
    - Immigration
    - Insurance Breaks
    - Medical Decisions on Behalf of Partner
    - Sick Leave to Care for Partner
    - Social Security Survivor Benefits
    - Sick Leave to Care for Partner
    - Tax Breaks
    - Veteran’s Discounts
    - Visitation of Partner in Hospital or Prison

    - Assumption of Spouse’s Pension
    - Automatic Inheritance
    - Automatic Housing Lease Transfer
    - Bereavement Leave
    - Burial Determination
    - Child Custody
    - Crime Victim’s Recovery Benefits
    - Divorce Protections
    - Domestic Violence Protection
    - Exemption from Property Tax on Partner’s Death
    - Immunity from Testifying Against Spouse
    - Insurance Breaks
    - Joint Adoption and Foster Care
    - Joint Bankruptcy
    - Joint Parenting (Insurance Coverage, School Records)
    - Medical Decisions on Behalf of Partner
    - Certain Property Rights
    - Reduced Rate Memberships
    - Sick Leave to Care for Partner
    - Visitation of Partner’s Children
    - Visitation of Partner in Hospital or Prison
    - Wrongful Death (Loss of Consort) Benefits

This is why. And it’s not because of logical reasons. It’s because of bigotry, mostly from the religion you claim as your own.

Your god has some very unwholesome things to say about homosexuals and incredibly inhumane ways to treat them. You can read more about that in your Bible if you so choose.

You can also read more about the government’s marital benefits here:
