Society needs less strict religious upbringing and more porn

Remember all those annoying religious wackos who keep trying to convince us watching porn is evil? Well, it turns out their fucked up message and restrictive religious instructions might actually increase the chances of someone becoming a rapist. That’s according to two psychologists, Michael J. Goldstein and Harold Kant (who’s body of work goes back to the 1970′s), who had figured out the link between porn and rape was utterly bogus, even back then.

It doesn’t surprise me a strict religious upbringing can fuck someone up, especially when the religion focuses so strongly on our impulse to breed. Look, you’re an animal, and there’s a part of you that can’t resist the idea of having hot, steamy sex. If you try and repress this urge, odds are it’ll manifest itself in some pretty scary ways, and no one needs that. Religions are like the thought police; they don’t even want you fantasizing for your own pleasure. Instead they try and teach you lustful thoughts are bad, and need to be suppressed. I can’t even begin to imagine the kind of psychological damage that’ll do to a human being…

As far as the benefit of watching porn, the good news seems to be as sexually explicit materials become more widely available, the number of sexual abuse cases don’t increase; in fact, they actually begin to decline. And what about the idea that watching porn makes men misogynistic? Well, that too has been refuted. So if you’re sitting at home so bored out of your tree you’re reading this shitty blog, might I humbly suggest you go do your civic duty and go watch a lot of porn instead?

Sexual repression is bad. No question. It results in dysfunction and harmful attitudes. It also makes porn MORE popular. (how much more do we want what we can’t have?) The irony is: repressive mindsets railing against problems they themselves create!

As for no causative link between porn and misogyny… well, you have to concede that a lot of porn IS misogynist. It can perpetuate an unhealthy attitude. Then again, “healthy” can be subjective. Just like “dirty”. ;)

I’ve always wondered, if porn is mysoginistic, then what about gay porn? Is that mysandric?

I’ve always chuckled whenever someone mentions that porn is misogynistic and degrading to women. It makes me wonder if the person watching the porn has ever *truly* watched it.

Turn off your inner monologue for a moment and stop trying to pretend the girl on the screen, who looks a lot like the girl from the grocery store checkout you had a crush on when you were fifteen, is screwing around with you and actually listen to the dialogue.

    Its actually quite telling.

The woman often demands for the man to “Fuck me harder!”. When he’s performing cunnilingus, she’ll often say “I love the way you’re eating my pussy!” In fact she spends nearly the entire encounter screaming at the man to perform to her exacting specifications, often berating him and belittling his efforts if he fails to please her in some way.

She proudly, and loudly, will scream out her pleasure and let the man know that he was responsible for it, even when she’s been more or less berating him the entire time for being an abject sexual failure.

Even when it finally comes time for the man to “pop” she often forcefully screams at him so she knows where, and when, she wants the semen to be deposited and what she’s going to do with it when he’s done.

And this is mainstream porn folks.

Even in so called degrading porn where the woman is tied up and spanked, or forced to be subservient to the man in some way, then woman is often shown to be in firm control of her body and sexuality. Watching the pre, or post, interview often shows a woman who is very secure in herself, in tune with her desires to be dominated, knows exactly what she wants done to her, and how engaging in the activity relates to the fulfillment of her sexual needs.

So I’ve always found it funny that an explicit visual depiction of a women who is self confident and comfortable with her body, while being forceful and demanding that she be sexually satisfied, is somehow deemed to be misogynistic and degrading to women.

Most enlightened guys would kill to have a strong willed woman in their lives who isn’t afraid of her body, her sexuality, or of forcefully demanding sexual equality by ensuring her sexual needs are met by her partner; its probably one of the big reasons why so many guys watch porn. ;-)

Yeah, I also always found it weird how people point to porn as being “degrading to women” or “misogynistic”. It feels like it comes from a wrong-headed notion that sex and sexual play is some kind of horrible thing that we must “protect women from” like knights in shining armor or some crap! That whole notion that women are “pure and beautiful creatures” (equating them to some kind of pure property item… sorta’ like how people view children often)… doesn’t that seem MORE misogynistic and fucked up?

Porn and sexuality is something enjoyed by both men and women. Men and women both become sexual creatures within the context of porn. When someone makes the protest that porn turns women into “sexual objects” it makes me think they don’t think of their sexuality as something innate to their person-hood/animal-nature, which is unfortunate. Even worse… it makes me think that they might have a tendency to see women alternately as “objects of purity” and things that should be protected by a father-like man, which is just all kinds of degrading and fucked up in and of itself!

    PORN!!!!

I’m glad that – for once – I’m doing my civic duty properly! So, here’s to you Kate Frost, Belladonna and Sasha Grey for keeping my testicles so deliciously empty and keeping the kleenex and vaseline companies in business!

The dudes doth protest too much, methinks.

Look, quit thinking with your dicks and pay attention… If your post was a response to mine, I’ll reiterate: I didn’t say ALL porn is misogynist, I said A LOT of it is. If I’m reading you correctly, you claim NONE of it is. Well, that’s equally absurd.

Porn’s an equal opportunity debaser. Just happens that most of it is produced by, and for, men. [not hatin', just statin'] Some of these men disrespect women, and/or they lack self-respect, and the product reflects this. One can participate in something willingly, and still be exploited, right? [religions are testament to this]

If you’ve convinced yourself that “gang-banged, cum-hungry, casting couch sluts, whores, and girls gone wild” are empowered, and empowering, you’re frickin’ delusional. IMHO, the best sex is something you do WITH someone else, not TO them. Y’know?
Domination/victimization can be roles to play, they shouldn’t be roles to live out.

The parallels with organized religion are numerous; tap into basic human urges, commodify, control. No wonder religions fight against sexuality. Porn is COMPETITION for the church. Being a “true believer” in either is shitty. Question what you consume, that’s all.

P.S.-Yeah, it’s weeks later, but I checked back and thought the bathroom wall could use a reply.
Play safe out there… Ya’ frickin’ apologists. ;)
