Are you cooler than this kid?

Will Phillips is officially the coolest kid in the world. A few weeks ago, he refused to take the Pledge of Allegiance at his school so long as gays are treated as second class citizens. At first he got in big trouble (prompting the principle to take disciplinary action), but since no one can be forced to recite it (yet), Will isn’t in any trouble, although school officials have refused to apologize to him (man, how embarrassing is it when an 11 year old is the most mature person in the room?).
Poor Will has been at the butt end of anti-gay slurs, but he appears undeterred in his quest for justice. Man, when I was a kid all I cared about was candy and video games; I wish I had bothered to take a bit more of an active interest in the world. You know, so long as there are good people like Will around, there’s definately lots of hope for the future.
So what did you fucking accomplish today?
(props to TGA host Jeff Jones for the find)

Uhh… I made pancakes, well not really, I burnt them.
Anyhoo, that is the coolest kid in USA right now! Though I don’t think his protest will do much, and let’s face, he won’t be saying that pledge for a LONG time, we all know how screwed up USA is.

“She got a lot more angry and raised her voice and brought my mom and my grandma up,” Will said. “I was fuming and was too furious to really pay attention to what she was saying. After a few minutes, I said, ‘With all due respect, ma’am, you can go jump off a bridge.’”
xD That is the best thing I’ve ever read. What a respectful way to say go fuck off and die.

I love this kid. Will for president!!!!

No argument. I am most certainly NOT cooler than that kid.

I agree with Wendy, Will should rethink his plans for the future and consider running for public office instead.

Dude, this kid rocks. Can I like… give him a bike?

Had I been a citizen… I would vote him in without a doubt.

Will is awesome indeed.
When I was 11, all I cared about was studying and getting in fights. I saw someone being beaten up in the schoolyard, I jumped in to defend them – it was my idea of fun. At 15, having earned my first trickles of money, got beaten up by parents for donating some of it to homeless people. At 16, came out and tried to make a GSA at my high shcool, getting almost expelled. This year, got some bruises when Pride participants were attacked on the street.
My intentions were always cool like this, but I never could make stuff happen. But I guess this is just part of me being a total failure from the beginning.I hope he won’t get in trouble for being so brave and outspoken like I did. I wish him the life he wants & deserves to have. He has proven himself to be something better than a human being.

At his age i was sitting in front of a Commodore 64 trying to get through The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Infocom.
Good times.

@Lancet: It seems like his parents are completely ready to defend his actions, so I don’t think he’ll get in trouble for it from them. His school-mates might make fun of him and call him names, but hopefully he realizes that school doesn’t last more than a fraction of your life.
@Averre: Put the goldfish in your ear. You screw that up, you lose the game.

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.
