Because there apparently isn’t enough news going on in the world (isn’t there a war or something going on?), ABCNews has devoted an entire 2 page article on whether or not texting “OMG” (Oh My God) is blasphemous or not, and how much the Lord’s name gets used “in vain”. I’m happy to report that 95.9% of its use on prime time television is for swearing. There is some hope for humanity yet…
Now I know that when discussing swearwords, I’m not exactly the most objective person; I regularly cuss, and it’s just a natural part of my speech. But the very fact that anyone could be worried about eternal damnation for texting “OMG” at the end of a sentence is the stupidest thing I’ve ever read. Congratulations ABCNews for proving once again that mainstream media is absolute garbage (OMG!!!!).

Interestingly, in Catholicism, saying “fuck”, “cunt”, or other obscenities is only a venial sin, but “Oh my God!” or “Jesus Christ on a cracker!” would fall under profanities, and are mortal sins. Guess which one gets bleeped on TV, though?

Blasphemy isn’t even possible. God doesn’t exist, how can you insult something that isn’t real?
