Science is wicked!

The majority of religions are convinced their vision of the universe is beautiful and inspired, but you really need to turn to science for the good stuff. Not even the most clever religion can grasp the true size and scope of the cosmos. For some, the scope of the universe may be overwhelming, and it may convince them that without the notion of gods, our existence is random and meaningless. But what does that matter? Does one need meaning to get up in the morning and enjoy the pleasures of being alive? You live in a universe with billions of other galaxies, all retreating away from one another at astonishing speed. Is that not mind-blowing?

And to think that God made the whole thing just for us! Aren’t we special!

Seriously, this reminds me of the Total Perspective Vortex in Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Only, for some unexplainable reason, I was able to watch the video without my mind being vaporized. (Only slightly singed around the edges!)

As beautiful as it is I really don’t like thinking to much about the vastness of the universe or how to reconcile a flat universe with a 3rd dimension for the same reason I don’t like thinking about infinity. Honestly it feels like my brain is caught in an infinite loop. I do however wonder if similar feelings are registered in the extremely devout.

It would certainly explain a lot.

Tom, this is slightly different version of total perspective vortex. It has no “You are here” pointer in it. :D That’s why you are still sane.
