Pope not welcome in Ireland

I never thought I’d see the day where the Pope isn’t welcome in Ireland. But hey, a 2,900 page report detailing the sexual, physical and emotional abuse of children by the Catholic Church is enough to make even the strongest believer feel overwhelmed. A new survey reports that until the current Pope does more to compensate the victims, the majority of Ireland doesn’t want him visiting.

I got news for you: even if the Pope does appologize, it doesn’t change the fact that Benedict XVI, prior to holding the position of Pope, was the main guy in charge of investigating child abuses in the clergy, and his report suggested the Church keep quiet about it. In all likelihood, he would have probably heard about what was going on in Ireland, but did nothing to stop the abuses there and elsewere.

It’s an encouraging sign religious belief isn’t what it used to be in Ireland. Perhaps in a couple more decades, it’ll be as secular as the rest of Europe. We can only hope…

Hello there- Very encouraging shift in attitude – albeit at the horrendous expense of 3OO OOO tragedies; though in reality many more as family members should be included in the total of destroyed lives. I feel that for the pope to apologize for these crimes would amount to an insult – but the fact that he hasn’t even done this proves his total lack of morals. It also shows his contempt for the victims of these crimes, who clearly have a need for an apology. Let us not forget that he is an orator – not a thinker, not even a compassionate man. So an apology may just be an overblown meaningless gesture. You say “…until he does more..” – i think that should read ‘until he starts doing anything at all’. As i said in a previous comment, the Vatican, the pope, the clergy et al have historically been cushioned by a self-given protection of secrecy. They are the untouchables. The first crack in this cover of false respectability is the fact that now he is not welcome. Somehow, we should have powers to prevent him from setting foot where he is not wanted. What is wanted is compensation – not idle words. The Catholic Church’s false accounting is FRAUD. FRAUD IS A CRIME. So why are they not being taken to court? As a nation we owe it to the victims to fight for new laws to make the pope etc fully accountable. As the pope was previously in charge of Investigation of Child Abuse Within The Clergy & “suggested to keep it quiet” – i want him tried for aiding + abetting the worst crimes. Unfortunately, without even considering this, public opinion seems to be that he and the clergy are above the law. This simply cannot be allowed any longer. —Could we please have advice from lawyers on Twitter? — Please let me know where i can read the pope’s Investigation Report + his advice for cover-up. Thanks from ilsa scott in London.

Hello GOOD ATHEIST – wondering if you actually read comments 2 articles? Would like a reply 2 my request 4 info. – Find it astonishing that one never reads any atheist lawyers’ comments – have tweeted weeks ago to get info how to sue cardinal Cormac MurphyO’Connor under Religious&Race Hate Act as ATHEIST COMMUNITY – not a peep. Lamentable. It is clearly laughable to imagine that an individual could sue the clergy/ pope. We need to do so en masse & what better platform than Twitter? But we need legal advice to tap into the maze of secrecy & corruption & crime & tyranny that is the Catholic Church. I would like comments on this from Tweeples + lawyers + atheists. Even twittering atheist lawyers. Quite frankly – a girl surrounded by all this apathy – atheist + otherwise – could lose the will to live. Then what? Could someone find out number of lawyers on Twitter? – Tweet me on @VOX_RATIONIS (preferred) or @PURPLEXED or both (more preferred). From ilsa scott in London.

Re comment 2 by DEDWARMA – You say: “unfortunately this kind of news only encourages the protestants.” The news in the article was this: The Irish people do NOT want to welcome the pope. (The pope’s a catholic.) In what way would that encourage Protestants to exactly what? And why is that which you haven’t explained so unfortunate? Perhaps you mean Protestants would feel such pity 4 the unwanted pope that they would be encouraged to welcome him instead? Or: The news would want them to convert to catholicism now that Irish catholics seem to show some sense? Whatever you meant- presuming you know yourself- there is no point, reason, merit to bring Protestants into this debate. And in a debate, there is no point, reason, merit to make baffling insinuating comments. This ongoing debute is about the CRIMES of the Cath.Church. It is about a so-called Christian Church behaving UNCHALLENGED for centuries in the most barbaric, monstrous, tyrannical, inhumane, smirking, contemptuous, grabbing, bigoted, misogynistic, self-aggrandizing, fraudulent, evil, sickening ways – presided over world-wide by ONE egomaniac in a frock. Still with me, Dedwarma? Now read it again & from now on leave Protestants out of this. From ilsa in London.
